The Romanoffs?raised some eyebrows with its first trailer -?the size of the astonishing ensemble cast alone seemed wildly ambitious, and left us wondering how Matthew Weiner could gracefully juggle these interconnected story lines. Even so the new trailer to the?Mad Men creator’s Amazon series is sold with some additional details that reveal Weiner’s approach: It’s an anthology.
Each of the series’ eight episodes centers on another character who promises to be descended through the Romanoffs – the storied Russian family who ruled the land until they had been?executed in the violent revolution. The household has become romanticized in pop culture throughout the years; although debunked, one woman’s are convinced that she was Anastasia Romanoff coupled with survived the slaughter inspired the animated film?Anastasia.
And now Weiner is putting his spin about the Russian royal family which includes a cast made up of almost any actor you care about – including Isabelle Huppert! – playing selection of characters who seek to cash-in on the Romanoff name. Even though the legitimacy of the claim is incredibly questionable, it can serve as the unifying thread all over the series; every character’s life requires the reality that there’re descended through the Romanoffs, also it colors different conflicts for their stories.
Here really are a couple of the awesome actors you will definitely see in?The Romanoffs, along with a few familiar faces from?Mad Men: Christina Hendricks, John Slattery, Isabelle Huppert, Amanda Peet, Corey Stoll, Andrew Rannells (Girls?reunion!), Kathryn Hahn, Griffin Dunne (I Love Dick reunion!), Kerry Bishe, Diane Lane, Jay R. Ferguson, Aaron Eckhart, Paul Reiser, Noah Wyle, Jack Huston, Mary Kay Place, Ron Livingston, and Radha Mitchell.
The initial two instances of?The Romanoffs will hit Amazon on Friday, October 12.
