Box Office: “Mission Impossible” Takes Week 2, Kate McKinnon Squanders “SNL” Good Will with Second Summer Flop back to back
Yes, yes. “007: Fallout” added $35 million for the till and Cruised for the second week at primary. Disney’s Christopher Robin, as opposed to Troma’s Christopher Robin, arrived second with $25 million. That was the second Christopher Robin movie in the last year, and also the second the one that none of us wanted.
More important: what exactly is Kate McKinnon doing with your ex-girlfriend career? You understand from first day when McKinnon arrived on “Saturday Night Live” I said she’d be described as a superstar. Over the series, jane is definitely. She’s won numerous Emmys, all deserved, but including the awards don’t completely elucidate her subtle, superior performances. From Hillary to Jeff Sessions to Justin Bieber…and her performance on “SNL” singing “Hallelujah” as soon as the election– brilliant!
So why has she fallen into this trap of constructing crappy cheap comedies breaks? Last year’s “Rough Night” was unwatchable. Un-watchable. Now “The Spy Who Dumped Me” has eked out $12 million on its opening weekend. It’s cheesier looking than Velveeta. McKinnon is actually suitable for this.
It’s possible she’s just studying the same hazing several talented comics before her– considering her venue. Kristen Wiig finally discovered with “Bridesmaids.” But McKinnon one is the most like Lily Tomlin. She demands a Jane Wagner, a Robert Altman, maybe a Judd Apatow a la Amy Schumer. McKinnon shows up in Danny Boyle’s “Beatles” movie filming now. That is something. But please, get rid of of these things. We don’t get a hold of discount DVD bins anymore! Where do there movies go digitally?
