Madonna Strikes Out at VMA’s, Barely Mentions Aretha Franklin During Self-Absorbed Tribute

Madonna’s self absorbed tribute to Aretha Franklin is definitely the laughing stock in the internet. As now widely documented, Madonna caused it to be information on her — her struggles, her trials and tribulations, her idiotic semi-African Halloween outfit.

Are we surprised? Not just a bit. It brought to mind Madonna’s documentary about Africa, called “We are Because We’re.” The film showed no appreciation on the continent, just Madonna’s limited worldview. We dubbed it “We’re also Because I Am.”

Madonna and Aretha Franklin don’t have anything concerning each other. The fact that was the actual? Why did MTV, so irrelevant now, select a suburban white girl having a processed voice to honor the Queen of Soul? I’m sure Janet Jackson, by helping cover their a huge hit– something Madonna hasn’t been in 20 years– was available.

What unfortunate. I’m sure we can expect better with the American Music Awards on October 9th, and the Grammys, in February. At least small children Madonna will not be invited to Clive Davis’s Madison Square Garden tribute to Aretha on November 14th. Those performers and speakers shall be of a better, and real substance.

For a proper tribute to Aretha, read Sam Moore in today’s Variety.
