Janet Jackson Is Back! Has Her First Top Hit Since 2001 With Infectious, Joyous “Suitable for Now”

Never say never.

Janet Jackson has her first top hit since 2001 with “Made for Now,” a collaboration with Daddy Yankee.

The record is great, although the response comes right from an outrageous get rid of performance on the “Tonight” visible on Friday. That, as well as the video with the song, makes it number 4 on iTunes, competing with the revolutionary Ariana Grande single and also the avalanche of sales for Aretha Franklin’s singles.

Janet’s last actual hit was in 2001. That has been “A person to Call My Lover” with Jermaine Dupri. I am aware, you’re thinking, it can’t be so very long ago. But following that Janet’s recording career was a mess. Her last two singles didn’t even chart. And before that, “No Sleeep,” with many e’s, got just to number 63.

So what happened? I’ll inform you: “Created for Now” is really an actual song, having a chorus that’s conventional, understandable, and singable. Also, the recording is ebullient, euphoric, and triumphant. It’s paying homage to “Smooth.” It’s joyous. Director Dasve Meyer captured some magic, and it’s infectious.

Janet isn’t even at a conventional record label anymore. She released “Generated for Now” by herself Rhythm Nation records, distributed by indie group Cinq Records. She’s had 8 million views on YouTube to the video proper. I’ve added the Tonight show clip following that. Janet is back, kids. I’d say this would be 4 seasons for that Mountain Hall of Fame to complete the right thing.

One PS: In any those years, Janet never stopped trying. She survived Michael’s death, her waning popularity, poor ticket sales, an awful marriage, her crazy family. Persistence– and talent– have paid in full.
